This project teaches students how our Unthinkables manifest in every day life. It teaches them how to resolve situations with SuperFlex thinking and action. In addition, it supports collaboration, communication and creativity in a group setting, as well as incorporating many of our technology skills, such as inserting text, copying, pasting, saving, filing, importing and manipulating graphics. We used the program StoryBoardThat to create these projects.
FOURTH GRADE PROJECTS: Ms. Dolcino's Car Runs Amuck
One Day on the Playground
We asked our third graders to work as a team on a News segment that used Sports, Weather, Eye in the Sky, Critic's Corner, Sports Wrap-up, etc. as our foundation. The students were challenged to interview an Unthinkable who would demonstrate the Unthinkable behavior in each of the situations. The SuperFlex reporter and anchor help them to decelerate the behavior. Students worked collaboratively on their scripts, which gave them another opportunity to practice SuperFlex behavior!
Puppet Pals is an iPad app that is engaging and fun for students. Like all our digital projects, the students begin by creating a script and determining characters, plot, and beginning, middle and end of their story. We asked students to create a digital story to reflect how our fourth grade Friendly Helpers can be used to mediate situations at school. Friendly Helpers are trained by Ms. Dolcino at the end of third grade so they are ready to support our school community when they arrive in the fall as fourth graders.
